SO YOU’RE MOVING TO FLORIDA?

Congratulations and Welcome to Florida!

You have made the next step towards the sunniest part of your life. At East & Greenwell Insurance Agency, we’ll be the first to admit that we are extremely biased. We think that southwest Florida is the best place to live! Pre-pandemic there wasn’t a day that went by that we didn’t feel blessed to call Florida “home.” After lockdowns and quarantines we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else, after all, where else can you go to the beach in January or a boat ride in February?
We want to help make your transition to Florida as easy as possible. That’s exactly why we’ve put together this easy checklist for anyone moving to Florida.
Let’s get started!

PURCHASE FLORIDA AUTO INSURANCE

One of the first steps into your new life in the Sunshine State is to purchase Florida auto insurance. It’s important to note that you don’t have to get a Florida Drivers license prior to obtaining Florida Insurance.

Call our office at 239-434-7877 and we will quote you on the spot for Florida auto insurance.

REGISTER YOUR VEHICLE(S) AT THE DMV

Once you’ve purchased Florida Auto Insurance, your next step is to register your vehicle(s) at the DMV. All parties on the title must be present to register the vehicle. Remember, some nationalities require vehicle inspections, such as Canadians. If you are unsure if you need a vehicle inspection, please call your closest DMV.

Be sure to bring the following documents with you:

  • Insurance ID Card
  • Proof of Vehicle Ownership
  • VIN Verification
  • Florida Certificate of Title
  • Out-of-State Title (if applicable)
  • Driver’s License
  • Payment Method (to pay your registration fee, title fees, plate fees, and taxes)

CONVERT YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE TO FLORIDA AT THE DMV

Florida law states you must obtain a Florida drivers license within 30 days of becoming a resident of Florida.

The documents required in order to convert your license to Florida varies depending on which state you’re moving from. For more information about what documentation will be required, visit DMV Florida.
